Nothing Less than 100%, Nothing More than 350.

We slept out in tents on the Boston Common on April 21, to show our commitment for strong leadership in Massachusetts against rapid, catastrophic climate change. We slept because our homes are powered by dirty electricity, and we oppose its contribution to the greenhouse effect.

On the morning of April 22 we walked to the State House and discussed our bill with our representatives. Specifically, we will asked Representative Binienda to release our bill from his House Committee on Rules so that it may be voted on by the rest of the house.

What is the Leadership Campaign?

We are serious people using serious tactics to call for serious solutions to a serious problem.

Serious People

  • Students, Businesspeople, Clergy, Legislators, and Everyday Citizens who are stepping up to lead in a time of crisis.
  • We're not getting paid to do this.
  • We are volunteering our time, and asking you to join us, because the world is burning, and someone must lead.
Serious Solutions
  • When the world is burning, we have the courage to call for an end to burning fossil fuels.
  • The courage to challenge Massachusetts and America to rise to the occasion, to wake ourselves up from apathy and despair, and to make our generation one future generations look back with gratitude and awe.
  • We are calling for 100% Clean Electricity by 2020.
Serious Tactics
  • But we do not limit ourselves to calling for action. We are taking action.
  • We pioneered the sleep-out, demonstrating our moral qualms with sleeping in homes powered by dirty electricity by sleeping-out across the state, joining together in public spaces an sleeping in sleeping bags and tents under the stars. When it's not legal to sleep outside, we have done it anyway. Because the world is burning, and someone needs to take a stand.
  • We wrote a bill, An Act to Create a Repower Massachusetts Emergency Task Force, that will create a task force with a 6-month mandate to recommend how the state can best accelerate towards 100% Clean Electricity by 2020. Our bill was jointly introduced on December 7th in the State House and the State Senate, with 17 co-sponsors. We're working to pass it, but we're not waiting.
  • We're Repowering Massachusetts. Like the citizens in World War II who grew Victory Gardens in their backyards, bought war bonds, and had meatless mondays, we are walking the walk. We are retrofitting homes, slashing emissions in our homes, schools, and churches and calling on our legislators to follow our lead.
Serious Problem
  • We're doing this because no one else is.
  • Scientists, advocates, and policymakers have been aware for decades that burning fossil fuels is putting our world and our people in sincere jeopardy. Yet almost none have had the courage to call for the changes we really need.
  • We have had the courage to not just call for the changes we really need, but also the vision and the principled determination to see them through.
  • We will not stop until our state and nation commit to repowering with 100% Clean Electricity by 2020. Join us.

Every generation needs a revolution.
